School Support – Simply Explained

Every child has the right to be fully included. We explain how school companions help break down barriers and ease the daily school routine.

Every child has strengths – we help bring them to light.

School support means providing a child with assistance during the school day whenever they cannot manage on their own (just yet). This can be for a few hours a day or throughout their entire time at school.

The goal is always the same: active participation. We ensure that your child isn’t just physically present in the classroom, but truly involved — whether during lessons, at recess, or in social interactions. We act as 'translators' in challenging situations and a safe anchor when things get overwhelming. Our ultimate goal is to gradually make ourselves redundant, as your child learns to navigate their path independently.

As individual as your child

There are many reasons why a child might need a BegleitLicht. We support children with a wide variety of needs:

Learning & Focus

For example, with ADHD or developmental delays.

Perception & Structure

For example, with autism spectrum disorders.

Unique Journeys

For example, with Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) or FASD.

We don’t look at the diagnosis; we look at the individual. We give every child the space and time they need to unlock their full potential.

Wherever school life happens

School doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our BegleitLichter are right there where they are needed:

During daily lessons and recess

Onfield trips, day excursions, and internships

Even during multi-day school trips

We are by your child's side throughout the entire school day, ensuring every experience can be shared.

The right form of support

Every situation is different, which is why we offer different approaches:

Die 1:1 Support

A dedicated companion focuses exclusively on your child. This builds a sense of security and a deep bond of trust. If your BegleitLicht happens to be sick, we will, of course, do our absolute best to arrange a substitute as quickly as possible.

The Pool Model

When several children at a school require support, we can assemble a team (a 'pool'). The companions then care for the children collectively. This often encourages interaction and makes our support even more flexible.

A vibrant team with a shared mission

We are just as diverse as the children we support. Our team includes young talent, experienced professionals, career changers with a heart, and people from a wide variety of backgrounds. We are united by the conviction that every child has the right to find their place in society. We are doers with heart, starting fresh every single day to pave the way.
